The Truro based accountancy firm Whyfield is celebrating again after their Managing Director Laura Whyte was named Small Business Mentor of the Year at the IAB UK & International Business and Skills Awards today.
The Westminster announcement follows months of research from the judges which included interviews with all of the finalists from which Laura emerged as the winner.
Over the past 2 years Laura has personally committed over 200 hours of time to an Unlocking Potential programme in Cornwall to help local people to develop ideas and grow businesses.
Her support work included cash flow forecasting, bookkeeping, balance sheets, profit and loss, management accounts, financial ratios, survival budgeting and of course accounting software. The idea behind the programme is to work closely with those people that show real growth potential that in turn will contribute to a stronger local economy.
The judges also recognised the mentoring provided to all Whyfield staff on personal career plans too which has certainly paid off with the firm experiencing over 50% growth in the past year.
Commenting on the news, Whyfield Managing Director, Laura Whyte said: “I’m absolutely delighted to win this award as mentoring is hugely important. It recognises that we believe in ‘investment for the future’ which is one of the most important things we do at Whyfield.”
