As of this week, 27th January 2025, Companies House will allow you to suppress your residential address if it has been used as a registered office address of an operating company. The fee that Companies House will charge for making this change online is £30 per document.

What are the conditions of address removal?

If a residential address is the current registered office address, this must be changed before applying for suppression.

If a director resigns from a company or the company is dissolved, the first part of the postcode will remain on the register.

Who can change the address?

Addresses can be changed by directors, persons of significant control and permanent representatives, this includes your accountant.

Do I need a reason?

The new changes, do not require a reason to have the application accepted, meaning anyone can apply for it. Before this came into place, information could be protected by applying online and paying £100 however, you could not protect your home address if was the registered office address and certain criteria needed to be met to have the application accepted.

Can anyone apply for this?

Yes, anyone can apply for this, however, non-UK residents are unable to remove details of their state or country of their home address.

How can I remove the address and what details will they need?

The application can be submitted online or by post, using form SR01. They will need the following details:

  • Applicants name
  • Applicants date of birth
  • Correspondence address
  • Applicants email address
  • Home address to be removed
  • Replacement address
  • Which documents have these details
  • Signature from applicant

What are my other options?

You can change the registered office address at any time, meaning that if you did use your residential address, this can be changed, however it will show on the filing history for anyone to view if you don’t apply for the suppression of the address.

If a residential address is used as a director or persons of significant control’s correspondence address, this can be updated, so that the correspondence address is ‘linked’ to the registered office address, this means that when a registered office address gets updated, it will automatically update it for the correspondence addresses too. The home address will still need to be provided to Companies House separately, however, this won’t show on the public register.
